Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” Tops List of 200 Greatest Albums Of The Last Decade

Plenty of blogs and publications are starting to release their best of the decade lists along with end of the year lists as we come to the end of the 2010s soon. While it’s nearly impossible to accurately narrow down all the albums of the last 10 years subjectively, there are some sites that use objective data to present lists as representative as you could get.

Discogs, a website of crowdsourced information about music, just put out their list of top 200 albums of the decade. The list was compiled using data from the site’s over 7 million users, their music collections and “want” lists.

On top reigns the 2013 Daft Punk album Random Access Memories, which beat out #2, David Bowie’s ★ (Blackstar), by a margin of 18%.

Most interesting about the list is that, separate from lists the past few years, the top 10 consists of mostly male-fronted rock acts like Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, and Arcade Fire. The same list in 2029 will likely feature mostly female pop and male hip hop acts. (Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar also feature in the top 10.) How times have changed.

You can see the full list here. Listen to Random Access Memories from Daft Punk again below.

VEVO Reveals Its 10 Top Most-Watched Videos of All Time

Not only are we approaching the end of the decade, but we’re already past video platform VEVO’s 10th anniversary. With the two milestones just about happening simultaneously, the video host went ahead and looked through its collection to find the 10 most-watched videos of all times.

The most-watched are broken down between globally, in the U.S. and the U.K. Overall, the U.S. numbers tower above those in the U.K., and obviously, the global videos tower above the U.S. even more so.

As you might expect, “Despacito” is the most-watched video with nearly six and a half billion views, while Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” takes second globally and first in the U.S. and U.K.

Reflecting global trends overall, all of the lists are dominated by pop and hip hop, with nary a rock nor EDM tune in sight, not even Major Lazer’s “Lean On,” which has probably been the biggest EDM song of the decade.

See the full lists below.
