Release Spotlight

REZZ surprises fans with a somewhat unexpected yet surprising collaboration with masked French DJ Malaa. The two deliver us ‘Criminals,’ a perfect blend of REZZ’s dark bass work layered onto Malaa’s signature house sound. The record was released on Tchami’s Confession label.

Shöckface and fellow contemporary So Sus release their alien-tinged collaboration, ‘Tribe’ on Jayceeoh‘s imprint label Super 7 records. The record opens up with a beautiful yet haunting soundscape only to transform into a barrage of alien styled synths as the record prolongs. The record is wonky, experimental and explosive all in one.

Saka debuts his first record ‘Dragons Back’ on taste-maker label Phuture Collective. The solo record is gritty, energetic and filled with flow. An absolute must listen.

QUIX delivers us a new EP on Steve Aoki‘s Dim Mak record label. The EP titled IDK Vol. 1 is filled with 4 classic QUIX sounding trap/bass crossover bangers.

Martin Garrix Drops Incredible Matisse & Sadko Collab at Freaky Deaky [WATCH]

Martin Garrix has yet another larger than life collaboration on the way, this time with Matisse & Sadko.

“Hold On (We’re Almost There)” is a grand Garrix production and a true EDM anthem. When Garrix played it out at Freaky Deaky over the weekend, time seemed to stand still — with everyone’s hands in the air.

Previously, Garrix tested out the track at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), but video footage from the stream kept getting taken down. Thanks to someone in the audience at Freaky Deaky, we have a high quality video of the unreleased collab and the kind of magic it radiates.

For many dance music fans, there’s no better collaborative combo than Martin Garrix and Matisse & Sadko. They only amplify that notion here. Just watch.

Ardalan Debuts New Album "Mr. Good" [Your EDM Interview]

Ardalan Debuts New Album “Mr. Good” [Your EDM Interview]

What do a parade float, Mardi Gras beads, and a masquerade have to do with camping? When you are at Dirtybird Campout West Coast 2019 in Modesto, they come together to create the perfect traveling stage for a surprise album listening party as DJ/artist Ardalan took to the beaten campground paths to share his upcoming album, Mr. Good.

And just a few short hours before the Parade embarked from the Dirtybird Games HQ, I met with Ardalan backstage to not only chat about the San Francisco DJ’s upcoming album.

Ardalan and I spoke about the meaning behind Mr. Good and the masks people wear through life. We also talked about going on Escapades with Walker & Royce through New York City, experimenting with a new sound for a future album inspired by his Persian heritage and childhood in Iran, attending his first Dirtybird BBQ at 17, and releasing his first Dirtybird track with Justin Martin at 19. Last of all, we talked about what it means to him that Mr. Good will be the final Dirtybird release ever made in the San Francisco home he shared with his label mate and mentor.

So excited to play The Great Northern on Saturday to celebrate my album release AAAAND my birthday! 🥳 Be sure to grab tickets before they’re all gone!Tickets – https://bit.ly/2ps4mH0

QUIX Drops Unexpected 4-Track 'IDK [Vol. 1]' EP [LISTEN]

QUIX Drops Unexpected 4-Track ‘IDK [Vol. 1]’ EP [LISTEN]

QUIX just dropped a sick new EP upon us and our jaws are on the floor!

The producer’s latest body of work, IDK, feels like a collection of random bangers all linked together cohesively through QUIX’s signature sound. The track titles only lend to the spontaneous nature of this release — “Huhhh,” “FON,” “Fiji Day 4” and “My house is IKEA.”

As with any QUIX release, the sound design is next level. Track after track, QUIX takes us on a thrilling, trap-infused ride. Three heavy hitters, all topped off by a light, playful take on drum and bass. From start to finish, IDK is a breath of fresh air.

Being that this is IDK [Vol. 1], we can expect more volumes to follow in the series.

Listen below and let us know what you think!

Getter Drops Emotional New Original “Heartless” [MUST LISTEN]

Getter is taking those Visceral vibes and running with them, as heard in his latest single out today.

“Heartless” showcases Getter’s ability to effortlessly shift from genre to genre, making for something truly raw and real. Our brains scramble to make sense of it — he starts with a four on the floor house beat, and then — wait, what is he doing? It’s better to let go of all that and listen.

“Heartless” is simply beautiful and deeply emotional, letting us in on yet another side of Getter we’re not fully accustomed to. His focus is on the music, not on the ways we try to define it — originality at its best.

And, we like to think this is a low key middle finger to all those who hated on Visceral.

Listen to “Heartless” below and belt out the lyrics:

Cut my heart out
We’ll never work it out
But we keep trying
And you keep crying
Feels like I’m frozen
You think I’m chosen
Please don’t start this
Maybe I’m heartless

Armin van Buuren Unleashes 7th Studio Album 'Balance' [LISTEN]

Armin van Buuren Unleashes 7th Studio Album ‘Balance’ [LISTEN]

Armin van Buuren‘s seventh studio album has arrived, Balance.

Sprawling two discs and 28 tracks long, Armin provides nonstop energy in a variety of forms. Diversity is key — from soft, ballad-like productions to pop-driven dance music, Balance has it all. Boasting massive festival tracks like “Blah Blah Blah” and “Stickup,” the album also has its fair share of bangers, as well as a new track with Ne-Yo and more.

Armin believes his new body of work is about thinking in possibilities rather than definition, and about what music could be instead of what it should be. It’s an amazing notion if you think about it.

He explains in his own words:

Every song I make teaches me something new, and the next song is always a result of all my previous records, the new things I learned and the people I met. Over the years, this process — and especially the fun of creating – became more and more important to me. It’s a journey that gives me meaning and helps me learn more about my personal interests rather than focus on the recognition I get for the outcome. That’s the big difference between who I am today and who I was a few years ago. ‘BALANCE’ is a new chapter in my book of life, the result of venturing into known and unknown territories while finding the balance in between.

Listen below and get tickets to see Armin live here.

JEANIE Drops Her Deadliest Weapon to Date with "HEADSHOT" [LISTEN]

JEANIE Drops Her Deadliest Weapon to Date with “HEADSHOT” [LISTEN]

JEANIE has unleashed her most deadly weapon with “Headshot.”

Trap laced and gritty to its core, “Headshot,” doesn’t disappoint. The producer starts it off with a hypnotic vibe, prepping the senses for the gnarly bass drops that loom ahead.

It’s straight to the point — no over-the-top builds or exaggerated moments — just one seamless burst of creativity. Though there’s an obvious change up between softer and harder moments, there’s also a nonstop flow that leaves no room for interruptions.

JEANIE explains in her own words: “I wanted to create a track that had some interesting contrast with a soft intro and a hard-hitting drop. I tried to keep things simple, but heavy-hitting and it’s definitely been a fun one to play.”

Listen and link up. Also, check out JEANIE’s platform GRL GANG.

Justice Debut New Collaboration With Frank Ocean

Justice Debut New Collaboration With Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean launched a new club night in NYC last night shrouded in mystery — the location wasn’t revealed publicly and tickets were only available to those who’d be sent a specific link. (How those people actually got the link, I’m not sure.) Shares Mixmag, “The title for the party is PrEP+, which also stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis, ‘a way for people who do not have HIV but who are at very high risk of getting HIV to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day,’ according to the CDC.”

One of the house rules for the night was “no photos or videos,” but that was apparently broken, and we’re thankful it was, to share this new Justice and Frank Ocean collaboration debuted at the club.

The house rule made the videos below understandably low quality, but fans of both artists will still take pleasure in hearing some new material. Ocean was reportedly going up in the DJ booth “sporadically,” as Mixmag put it, to share new music with collaborators like Sango and Sherelle.

Check out the videos below.

Talking New Sapphire EP, Music Videos & Upcoming Music with Devault [Interview]

Talking New Sapphire EP, Music Videos & Upcoming Music with Devault [Interview]

Devault teased us not that long ago that his latest EP was on the way with the titular track “Sapphire” with an accompanied music video. The EP drops today and is a follow-up to his JADE EP that was also paired with a visual experience. Both projects are part of a series of EPs that plan on expanding the Orange County native catalogue into dark club aesthetics.

But what makes Devault (real name Sage Devault) stand out among his peers is that he has his sights set on getting his audience to comprehend what his music and sets are like by making his visual aesthetics readily available when you search for sound. Whether it be via YouTube or Spotify, Devault’s audio and video projects are intertwined and inseparable. Like we once said, artists are taking their musical endeavors further and further and creating whole visual experiences to accompany their works. In this case, Devault is spending his resources to establish exactly what he is even though he is still a relatively new face in the industry.

From working with artists like Njomza, Team EZY, Ayelle, and ARMNHMR to officially remixing Rihanna, RL Grime, Charli XCX, and 6LACK, Devault has been on a grind that is admirable by this industry’s standards. Before the release of his latest EP, we sat down with Devault to talk about his Sapphire EP, his upcoming releases and advice on how to succeed in finding a sound that embodies
