Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, REZZ & More: Your EDM’s Stage Guide to EDC Orlando 2019

EDC Vegas may still be the flagship Insomniac event, but a smaller spin-off has become its own force of nature. It’s suitable for a festival set in a state threatened by hurricanes, heat waves with scolding sunburns and the dreaded Florida Man. Thankfully, this festival is in November, away from hurricanes and the worst of the Florida sun. No promises on Florida Man though…but expect a lot of happy ravers.

EDC returns to Orlando next weekend, this time running three days and spanning five stages. EDC Orlando launched nearly nine years ago in May 2011 at Tinker Field, with artists such as Skrillex, Calvin Harris and Goldie on the lineup. Flash forward to 2019: EDC Orlando is still at Tinker Field, but has expanded to be almost a new event entirely.

Last Friday, EDC Orlando announced the festival’s daily lineup by stage, and it’s exciting to see the breadth of talent on display. From pure EDM to rolling tech house, EDC Orlando’s lineups and stages have something for everyone.

Need help deciding who to see? We’d like to help. We picked our favorite artists for each stage, three for each of the bigger stages (kineticFIELD, circuitGROUNDS and neonGARDEN) and bonus picks for the two smaller stages (the debut of stereoBLOOM and the

RL Grime Drops 2019 Halloween Mix With Guy Fieri

RL Grime Drops 2019 Halloween Mix With Guy Fieri

It’s the most~ wonderful time~ of the year~

No, it’s not Christmas. It’s Halloween and RL Grime just dropped his annual mix just moments ago. This year, the intro duty was given to none other than Guy Fieri — it’s hard to conceive how the two came into contact, or how Fieri even agreed to jump on the mix, but we’re definitely not complaining.

The one-hour mix goes through the usual variety of trap and hip hop, mixing in dark beats and sinister vibes along the way. YouTube impressionist and Vine star Jake Foushee also makes an appearance, as well as the granddaddy of them all, RL Stein.

Check out the mix below, tracklist coming soon. Also find tickets to see RL Grime live on tour here.

1788-L Transforms The Classic "Halloween" Theme Into A Terrifying Banger

1788-L Transforms The Classic “Halloween” Theme Into A Terrifying Banger

Halloween is officially here, and that means loads of artists are dropping new music. However, right now, we turn our attention to the mysterious 1788-L who’s just unleashed a terrifying new remix of the classic “Halloween” theme.

Be warned, this song is not for the faint of heart, nor the light of foot. This ferociously off-kilter remix comes at your from a wild assortment of angles, hitting hard and fast, backing away, and coming in again swiftly for the kill. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who’s able to keep their rhythm when this one drops, but sure enough you’ll find plenty who are throwing their necks out.

Check out the remix below.

Lane 8 Drops Enthralling 2-Hour Spooky House Mix For Halloween

Lane 8 Drops Enthralling 2-Hour Spooky House Mix For Halloween

Halloween can manifest itself in a lot of different ways. You could find joy in giving others candy when they come to your door, you can dress up and go out partying, or you could turn your porch lights off and enjoy the fact that your roommates are out of the house for the night and cozy up with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa…

In the same way, Halloween can present itself differently in music. We’ve already seen dozens of bass music mixes come out to celebrate the horror filled nights, with one of the biggest still on its way, but how about house?

The groovy genre doesn’t typically have that sort of growling, impending-doom type of sound to it, so how do you make it spooky? You up the suspense, the darkness, the looming sense of unease. It’s not an easy task by any means, but Lane 8 accomplishes the task spectacularly.

While two hours for a mix might seem like a hefty task, as well, á la BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix, Lane 8 goes beyond that for 140 minutes of groovy, dark, foreboding house that flows like a demon into the night. Even listening to it in the morning will give you a bit of a boost going into the day. Listening at night, well… that’s another story entirely.

Check out Lane 8’s Halloween 2019 mixtape below, and buy tickets to see him live on tour here.

Disclosure, Chromeo, & More Added To An Already Stacked Djakarta Warehouse 2019

Disclosure, Chromeo, & More Added To An Already Stacked Djakarta Warehouse 2019

Not EDC, not Ultra, but Djakarta Warehouse in Indonesia has presented one of the strongest lineups of 2019. There’s a lot to be said about the undercard and support in curating a festival lineup, but when you have headlining sets from Calvin Harris and Skrillex and Zedd and Martin Garrix… not much else needs to be said.

Better yet, September’s lineup drop was only Phase 1, and the festival has just announced Phase 2. Joining this already stacked lineup will be Disclosure, Chromeo, Markus Schulz, Salvatore Ganacci, Coone, Yung Bae, and still more to be announced.

DWP takes place December 13 – 15 at Jakarta International Expo in Indonesia. Tickets and info here.

SQUNTO Announces He’s Retiring From DJing: Exclusive

The attention to mental health in just the last couple of years has skyrocketed to an incredible degree, with more and more people taking into account their mental well being in addition to physical and emotional. This has only had positive effects thus far as celebrities and musicians and more have been able to become more open with fans and lay bare their troubles and tribulations. Of course, for the fans, this sometimes comes as a negative as their objects of fandom announce their taking a break or more.

Just today, SQUNTO announced his intent to retire from DJing as he cancelled a pair of Halloween shows in Florida tonight and tomorrow. “Sorry guys – as I’m in the process of retiring from DJing full time,” he writes in his tweet, “some really intense mental stuff comes up and I need to put my mind first.”

I reached out to SQUNTO to ask him more about what retiring meant to him. He says that this was definitely not a spur of the moment thing, as he’s been thinking about it for years at this point. He points to the nonstop grind

Facebook & Instagram Ban Sexual Use of Eggplant & Peach Emojis

Facebook & Instagram Ban Sexual Use of Eggplant & Peach Emojis

Facebook and Instagram are cracking down on the use of eggplant and peach emojis — as well as nude photos in which emojis cover “genitalia, butts or female nipples.”

Moving forward, pairing an eggplant or peach emoji with any expression of sexual nature may get you banned. Also, photos with emojis covering private areas may be taken down.

“[Content] will only be removed from Facebook and Instagram if it contains a sexual emoji alongside an implicit or indirect ask for nude imagery, sex or sexual partners, or sex chat conversations,” Instagram revealed to the New York Post.

If you’re outraged about this, you’re not alone. It sounds silly, but taking away our eggplants and peaches is a form of censorship. On the flip side, this is meant to protect social media users, especially young ones. What do you think?

See the updated Facebook Community Standards, which also includes Instagram.

Flume Talks About His New Live Show Freedom & Being Called EDM

One of the biggest comebacks this year — if you can even call it that — is Flume. He resurrected his sound with Hi This Is Flume earlier this year, followed by an EP with Reo Cragun and a fantastic new single, “Rushing Back,” with Vera Blue. He’s also back on the live tour circuit, touching down at Red Rocks, Lollapalooza, and more. If there’s one thing to be happy about this year, it’s him.

The Australian artist recently sat down with Mixmag to talk about his live show, his influences, and the future. Throughout the conversation, they touch on his visuals from Jonathan Zawada, who produced most of the Hi This Is Flume mixtape visualizer, as well as what it might be like if an artist played exactly to what the Spotify algorithm favors most… just as an experiment. If anyone could manipulate sound design to that degree, it would certainly be Flume.

He also talks about the newfound freedom his live show affords him, mentioning that he’d grown tired of “just playing the same songs, standing there, the same moments.”

“I got sick of seeing electronic music artists just standing in one position the entire show twiddling knobs, pressing buttons. I kind of just thought, how about I just go and be entertaining and have some fun up there. I don’t try and pretend I can play every single element of every single song because these are really complicated pieces of music and if
