Boombox Cartel Throws Down With Epic Dia de los Muertos Mix

We’ve already seen a dozen or more Halloween mixes flood Soundcloud this past week, but few DJs can appropriately lay claim to a Dia de los Muertos mix, one of them being Boombox Cartel.

The duo of Americo Garcia and Jorge Medina have done it once again as they dive headfirst into the fourth iteration of their yearly DDLM mix. Though it obviously shared similarities with any other Halloween mix, it has that certain je ne sais quois that only Boombox can bring to the table.

With a little over 45 tracks, including IDs from Boombox and others, over the course of 55 minutes, this is up there for one of our favorite spooky mixes of the year.

Check out the tracklist here, catch Boombox Cartel on the road, and listen to the mix below!

QUIX Drops Unexpected 4-Track 'IDK [Vol. 1]' EP [LISTEN]

QUIX Drops Unexpected 4-Track ‘IDK [Vol. 1]’ EP [LISTEN]

QUIX just dropped a sick new EP upon us and our jaws are on the floor!

The producer’s latest body of work, IDK, feels like a collection of random bangers all linked together cohesively through QUIX’s signature sound. The track titles only lend to the spontaneous nature of this release — “Huhhh,” “FON,” “Fiji Day 4” and “My house is IKEA.”

As with any QUIX release, the sound design is next level. Track after track, QUIX takes us on a thrilling, trap-infused ride. Three heavy hitters, all topped off by a light, playful take on drum and bass. From start to finish, IDK is a breath of fresh air.

Being that this is IDK [Vol. 1], we can expect more volumes to follow in the series.

Listen below and let us know what you think!

So Critical Just Dropped a Remix of Halogenix's 'Blej' out of Nowhere...

So Critical Just Dropped a Remix of Halogenix’s ‘Blej’ out of Nowhere…

The bass music world has been somewhat fascinated with the comings and goings of Ivy Lab and Halogenix since their split in early 2018. Ivy Lab, now comprised of Stray and Sabre, were a bit quiet at first but are now working to take their sound in new directions with lots of collabs on their 20/20 imprint, including tracks on Amon Tobin/Two Fingers’s upcoming album. Halogenix, however, hit the ground running with a literal gallery of tracks and collabs and his first solo album on Critical, Deep News.

What was interesting about Deep News (aside from the beats and engineering, of course) was that Halogenix declared quite firmly with the album that he wasn’t abandoning halftime, as many fans assumed. A full five tracks on Deep News were halftime, including a VIP of one of Halogenix’s most popular pre-Ivy Lab split D&B tracks, Blej. In the VIP, Halogenix stretched out the minimal beat, added some hip hop elements and made the synths glitchier and darker than the original. It created a whole new feel to the track and those sent fans and critics who thought they had solo Halogenix pegged reeling.

Today, with no prior warning, Critical dropped yet another remix of “Blej” by Fade Black to the shock and joy of the bass world and heads up: it’s completely different from both the halftime and the original versions. We’re back to 174 with this remix but the big question is which stems did Fad Black use to make this

[PREMIERE] Code Pandorum Impossibly Takes ATLiens & EDDIE's "Closer" Even Deeper In New Remix

[PREMIERE] Code Pandorum Impossibly Takes ATLiens & EDDIE’s “Closer” Even Deeper In New Remix

When ATLiens and EDDIE first dropped “Closer” from the Ghost Planet EP earlier this year, it was already one of the darkest and deepest songs I’ve heard in a long time. The minimalism and tenor of the bass contribute heavily to also giving it one of the creepiest sound profiles ever. What I never expected was that another producer could come in and make it even darker and even creepier… then again, it’s Code Pandorum, so why am I not surprised?

Code Pandorum takes the minimalist original and lights a fire under it, giving it more depth and variety in the synths and bass. All of the elements of the roots remain, but CP puts it all through the ringer as he warps and molds each little element to his own design. The result is a devilish dubstep banger that will have even the most seasoned headbangers stopping for a moment to ask, “What the actual fuck?”

“This remix is probably one of my favorites I did so far,” says Code Pandorum. “ATLiens posted the music video of ‘Closer’ with EDDIE and I was instantly inspired. The dark eerie vibe really got me and I directly had a vision for the remix. You dare to move a little closer..?”

Check out the remix below, and listen to the full remix pack here. Check out ATLiens on tour if you get the chance!

Half an Orange – Mostly We Grow

Returning in a big way with their new Mostly We Grow Pt.2 EP, Half An Orange once again proves to be in a league of their own – showcasing their production prowess. They have engineered a masterfully crafted music journey that will leave listeners in awe.

Over the past year, indie-electronic duo Half an Orange has slowly created a universe of their own. While Ohio natives Andrew Spellman and Michael Maloof surely reside with the rest of us on this three-dimensional roller coaster of a planet, as of late they have found a flourishing musical existence among the vast void of cyberspace.

Dropping via Monstercat’s Instinct imprint, the four-track EP delivers their unique style and meaningful songwriting through organic instrumental melodies, breezy soundscapes and positive lyrics.

Half an Orange conclude: “Both parts of Mostly We Grow are about trying to grow as a person each day regardless of what life throws at you. The lowest and highest points of your life mean nothing if you don’t try to learn and grow from them.”

Through unique audio-visual experiences, passionate, vocal-centric production the prolific animated astronauts known as Half An Orange have continued their internet rise. Make sure you give their Mostly We Grow Pt.2 EP a listen below!

Your EDM Premiere: Viper's 'Acts of Mad Men' vol.2 Teases Yet another Massive Single With 'Lust'

Your EDM Premiere: Viper’s ‘Acts of Mad Men’ vol.2 Teases Yet another Massive Single With ‘Lust’

With the celebration of Viper’s 15 year anniversary, the imprint is reintroducing one of the things that put it on the map. The first Acts of Mad Men, released ten years ago, was a two-CD compilation album featuring heavy hitting tracks by the up-and-comers of the time, almost all of whom are now household names. Metrik, Camo & Krooked, Delta Heavy, Brookes Brothers, Nero, DC Breaks and label boss Futurebound himself all contributed tracks and all those tracks are now considered classics.

Ten years later, Viper has been teasing the hell out of the second coming of the Acts of Mad Man project and it stands to have much the same effect on the D&B landscape as the first compilation. Thus far, Magnetude, InsideInfo, Halflight and Blaine Stranger. Today’s release is the second part of a double single which includes a remix of Mefjus and Insideinfo’s “Pulsation” by Annix, teased two weeks ago by way of social media and a melodic banger by BMotion and Jack Mirror called “Lust.” Your EDM has the exclusive premiere of “Lust,” so let’s get stuck in.

What constitutes a “melodic banger,” you say? It seems BMotion and Jack Mirror have created a need for the term with “Lust.” Heavy, cinematic and dark with a melodic, ravey soundscape in synths and vocals, this track chugs along with a fervor so fast and raw that it almost leaves the dancefloor behind.

With multiple synth melodies, echo effects and an eerie yet beautiful instrumental section in the

Zeds Dead Drop New Deadbeats Radio Mix For Halloween

Zeds Dead Drop New Deadbeats Radio Mix For Halloween

Entering late into the Halloween mix race is Zeds Dead! One of my first times seeing the Canadian duo was at HARD Day of the Dead 2013 when they played atop a massive haunted house, so I have no doubt they can throw down a spooky mix along with the best of em. Thankfully, I didn’t have to listen very long to have my suspicions confirmed.

This is easily one of the spookiest mixes of the holiday, with “Monster Mash,” “Devil’s Den,” a “Thriller” mash up, the duo’s own “The Twilight Zone,” and more, including 1788-L’s new remix of the Halloween theme song. Track selection is only a part of the game when it comes to presenting a certain vibe within a mix, but Zeds Dead have it down to a science.

Crankdat Drops Thrilling 'Fearworld' EP Just in Time for Halloween

Crankdat Drops Thrilling ‘Fearworld’ EP Just in Time for Halloween

Crankdat just dropped a horrifying 2-track EP, just in time for the spookiest day of the year!

With this new release, Crankdat’s signature Gearworld has flipped a switch — it’s Fearworld now. The EP includes two absolutely menacing bass productions, “Horror Hour” and “Phantom Cry.”

Crankdat has become a master of his own craft and we’re confident only he could think up Halloween-themed songs as theatrical and scream-worthy as these ones. Haunting synths, threatening bass, and blood-curdling surprises lurk at every corner. Beware.

Without further ado, Crankdat presents “the most terrifying place in the universe,” Fearworld. Listen below.

Rezz Drops New Collab with Malaa During Freaky Deaky Performance [WATCH]

Rezz & Malaa Ring In Halloween With Their Epic Collab, “Criminals”

There’s lots of new music to tune into this Halloween. Between new 1788-L, RL Grime, Martin Garrix, and more, it can be hard to choose. That being said, for Rezz and Malaa fans, the choice is clear.

The two just dropped their first collab together, “Criminals.” At first listen, it’s a brilliant combination of both their styles, melding Malaa’s house vibes with Rezz’s more technical synth and bass work. With each successive listen, the intricacies make themselves more and more clear, from the vocal work to the tiny little background synths that give it that really spooky ambiance.

Check out “Criminals” below! You can find tickets to see Rezz on tour here, and Malaa here.

RL Grime Drops 2019 Halloween Mix With Guy Fieri

RL Grime Drops 2019 Halloween Mix With Guy Fieri

It’s the most~ wonderful time~ of the year~

No, it’s not Christmas. It’s Halloween and RL Grime just dropped his annual mix just moments ago. This year, the intro duty was given to none other than Guy Fieri — it’s hard to conceive how the two came into contact, or how Fieri even agreed to jump on the mix, but we’re definitely not complaining.

The one-hour mix goes through the usual variety of trap and hip hop, mixing in dark beats and sinister vibes along the way. YouTube impressionist and Vine star Jake Foushee also makes an appearance, as well as the granddaddy of them all, RL Stein.

Check out the mix below, tracklist coming soon. Also find tickets to see RL Grime live on tour here.
