It appears A$AP Rocky’s legal saga in Sweden has finally come to an end, with a result that many weren’t expecting. Today the court found the Harlem rapper guilty of assault, but then agreed to not sentence Rocky to any prison time as the crime was not “serious” enough for further punishment. Whether or not President Trump’s ‘threat’ has anything to do with this we’ll likely never know, but in any case it looks like the rapper is finally a free man and can start putting this all behind him.
Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky has dominated headlines for the past three weeks following his arrest in Stockholm for assault on July 2nd. Since his incarceration in a Swedish pre-trial detention center, celebrities like Justin Bieber, Kanye West, and even President Donald Trump have advocated for his release and more than 600,000 fans have signed A$AP Mob’s #JusticeForRocky petition.
Today, Swedish authorities have officially charged Rocky with aggravated assault. Rocky and two of his crew members will remain in the Swedish custody until their court date, which the Stockholm District Court will announce next week. Prosecutor Daniel Suneson said in a statement Thursday that he filed charges against Rocky and two others, “suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation.” If convicted, Rocky could face up to six years in prison for his crime. However, if Rocky is found not guilty, he could be paid more than $2 million as compensation for the dozen festival performances he’s had to cancel since his incarceration. Rocky and his legal team maintain that he was acting in self-defense. Stay tuned for more as this story develops.
If found not guilty, A$AP Rocky could be compensated for his horrific time spent in jail. According to TMZ, Swedish law permits a person to seek reimbursement for losses during their incarceration if the defendant is found not guilty. Since his incarceration, A$AP Rocky has been forced to cancel over a dozen shows and festival appearances across Europe, including Tomorrowland. Rocky’s lawyers have stated that his three-week-long detention has had a detrimental effect on the Harlem rapper’s career. A$AP Rocky has reportedly lost more than $1 million due to canceled events in England, Norway, and Poland alone. TMZ estimates Rocky brings in roughly $100,000 per performance and Sweden could be facing a hefty civil suit if Rock is found not guilty.
Yesterday, authorities dropped their investigation into the Swedish man allegedly involved in the brawl with Rocky. His lawyer has stated that they have received written confirmation that the man will not be charged as he is not suspected of any crime. Swedish prosecutors have until Thursday, July 25th to make a decision on Rocky’s investigation and subsequent indictment. If Swedish authorities decide to move forward, they will formally charge A$AP Rocky with aggravated assault later this week.
Despite intervention by celebrities like Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and even President Donald Trump himself, a spokesperson for the Swedish prosecution told CNN, “The Swedish judicial system is completely independent and does not take into consideration outside pressure from politicians or others.”
Ironically, it was announced today that … Read More
A$AP Rocky‘s tumultuous legal troubles in Sweden have only continued to get worse over the past two and a half weeks. Since his July 2nd arrest, Rocky has been ordered by a judge to indefinite detainment in a pre-trial detention center and has undergone inhumane conditions that border on human rights violations. With new stories about his overseas incarceration breaking headlines every day, there’s been an uproar of public support for the Brooklyn hip-hop artist. An overwhelming number of celebrities and fellow hip-hop artists have urged for Rocky’s release and A$AP Mob’s #JusticeForRocky petition has gathered over 600,000 signatures.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West have now pulled some strings to make President Donald Trump aware of Rocky’s detainment. The power couple reportedly lobbied Trump on behalf of A$AP Rocky and urged the President to get involved with the rapper’s situation. If you recall, Kardashian worked with Trump last year to grant clemency to a great-grandmother convicted of drug trafficking as part of her justice reform pet project. On Friday, Trump confirmed that Kanye was the motivating factor in his decision to get involved with our country’s foreign relations. So apparently Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are calling the shots at The White House.

Things just keep getting worse for A$AP Rocky. The rapper, who was arrested in Stockholm last week following an alleged assault, is currently being held for two weeks in a Swedish jail as per a court order.
Apparently, Rocky is facing deplorable, inhumane conditions in the Swedish pre-trial detention center. According to TMZ sources, Rocky is sleeping on a yoga mat and has not been given clean water or edible food. Rocky has spent his first five days in prison only eating an apple each day. To make matters worse, Rocky’s neighboring cellmate is struggling with mental health issues and spends his days banging his head against the concrete wall and flinging his feces.
The unclean, “disease-ridden” facilities have gone further by denying Rocky of his rights under the Vienna Convention treaty and have not allowed him to speak with a U.S. Consulate official. According to sources, Swedish authorities do not want U.S. officials to see the conditions in which Rocky is currently living. If convicted, Rocky faces a sentence of up to six years. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
